PHOTO EXHIBITION
Tâmpa Mountain – symbol of Brașov
ABOUT: The GeoEcological Organization ACCENT initiated a photography contest featuring images from the protected natural area of Tâmpa Mountain. The 30 most appreciated images were selected by a jury consisting of Ana Moiceanu (UNATC Bucharest – professional photographer and filmmaker) and Mihai Moiceanu (PhotoTOUR Brașov – professional photographer and filmmaker) and will be exhibited as part of a thematic event and exhibition.
For us, the people of Brașov, Tâmpa is the most accessible mountain where we can go for just a few hours to take photos. Many of us are inspired by it, and this proximity gives us the chance to “be in the right place” when something interesting happens in nature. And nature offers plenty every time we meet it. The selected photos for this exhibition, taken by both professionals and amateurs, by children and adults alike, all in love with nature, prove this.

EXHIBITION THEME: Flora, fauna, and landscapes of and around Tâmpa Mountain. The city of Brașov is one of the few cities with protected natural areas within its urban space. These bring benefits to the residents but also the responsibility to preserve them. In everyday speech, Brașov is synonymous with “the city at the foot of Tâmpa,” the mountain that separates the old Șchei neighborhood and the historic center from the newer neighborhood, Valea Cetății.
CONTEXT: Tâmpa Mountain has been under protection since 1962, declared a national nature reserve in 2000, and designated as a site of community importance in 2007. With an area of 214 hectares, it is part of the Natura 2000 network, a European ecological network of protected areas. Many species of flora and fauna in the area are protected at both European and national levels, such as the Lady’s Slipper (Cypripedium calceolus); Dragonhead (Dracocephalum austriacum); Bearded Iris (Iris aphylla ssp. Hungarica); Brown Bear (Ursus arctos); Yellow-bellied Toad (Bombina variegata); and Rosalia Longicorn (Rosalia alpina).
EXHIBITORS: Nicolae Iosif Trif, Mateia Ghițescu, Andreea Pașca, Alexandru Ghițescu, Ernő Ungvari, Hugó-Áron Pilbáth, Alexandru Bulgariu, Daniel Ursache, Robert-Antonio Anghel, Radu Ursu, Andrei Ursu.
DETAILS: This event is part of the project titled “Together for Tâmpa Mountain – symbol of Brașov,” aiming to raise awareness and inform the population (locals and tourists) about the importance of the protected natural area of Tâmpa Mountain (ANPMT), a symbol of Brașov Municipality, and to promote a “nature-friendly” attitude towards the protected flora and fauna species in the area.
PROJECT FUNDED BY: Brașov Municipality and implemented by the GeoEcological Organization ACCENT in partnership with the Brașov Metropolitan Agency (A.M.B.) and with support from the National Agency for Protected Natural Areas (A.N.A.N.P.) through the Brașov Territorial Service and the Apollonia Cultural Center – Banca de Cultură.
